Shebara Resort opened in November 2024 with something nobody expected. Thirty-eight stainless-steel spheres floating above the Red Sea. Each one polished to such perfection that they reflect their surroundings completely. Stand in front of one and it disappears into the horizon, shimmering like a mirage…
Architect Shaun Killa designed these orbs to ‘vanish’ – bottoms reflecting sea or sand whilst roofs mirror the sky above!
Built 500km Away & Shipped Whole
Bizarre But True! Each villa was manufactured complete at Grankfraft’s UAE facility, then transported across the Red Sea and installed as plug-and-play units. The reason? Coral reef protection.
The supporting columns touch only a few square metres of ground. The structures hover 50+ metres back from the reefs, creating minimal environmental disruption whilst appearing weightless above the lagoon in engineering that prioritises the local ecosystem over convenience.
Completely Off-Grid. Zero Energy. Zero Water. Zero Waste.
Shebara operates autonomously.
Over 1 million square feet of solar panels power everything. Guests can bicycle through the on-site solar farm. The resort runs its own desalination and waste-processing systems – no external grid connection exists. It’s complete self-sufficiency in one of the harshest climates on Earth.
Naturalistic Futurism Inside Steel Shells
The interiors balance the sci-fi exterior with tactile warmth.
Yet inside, Toronto-based Studio Paolo Ferrari designed yacht-like spaces featuring monolithic bed platforms that seamlessly integrate nightstands, carved-oak vanities and cantilevered mirrors suspended from curved ceiling planes.
Seventy-three villas total – 38 overwater, 35 beachfront and all accessible only by 30-minute seaplane or boat from Red Sea International Airport.
Underwater Dining. Private Reef Tours. Homegrown Cocktails.
The resort operates a glass-bottomed underwater restaurant where guests eat surrounded by passing fish shoals.
Private marine biologists guide small-group reef exploration sessions. Electric boats eliminate engine noise—the entire lagoon remains acoustically undisturbed. A wellness centre built into a cliff face offers treatments using Red Sea salt and locally harvested marine minerals.
There’s a zero-light-pollution stargazing deck. A library containing maritime archaeology texts. And a beach club that serves precisely three cocktails, all made with ingredients grown on-site in the resort’s hydroponic gardens.
